A Different Kind of Star
I'm taking a few days off for summer vacation and am currently enjoying my bout of laziness. I figured I needed to post something in the meantime, so here is my tarot card version of The Star. I've very slowly been working on creating my own tarot deck and began with one of my favorite cards in the Major Arcana. I took a few liberties with the traditional symbolism, but the basic meaning is the same. Medium: ink, watercolor on antique paper. Coming soon: more Kooky Hollywood Moms, Coco, Pete Doherty and any other random nugget of celebrity nonsense that happens to catch my eye.

I personally would love to get a deck of these cards if there is a way for you to reproduce them. I collect them (but only ones I like!) and if this is any indication of the rest of them, I would be very interested. Lovely!

I've been watching Carnivale so this is particularily pleasing to me right now. Gorgeous!

Beautiful...can't wait to see more!

Since I read the manga "X", I discovered the Tarot a bit and I love associating people to Tarot cards (just like in "X", actually...) so, are you gonna add celebrities to your arcanas? I'd love to see Carrie Underwood as the Devil, Paris Hilton as the Fool and Madonna as the Empress. And the Lovers? Why not TomKat?

I always love your art, 14. This is lovely.

I second the vote for you to sell them as a deck of cards when they are all done. And as always beautiful work!

Very nice. It will be interesting to watch the other pieces crop up. Can't wait to see what the Tower will look like!

Thank you!!
I don't know if I could sully the Tarot with celebrity filth. The thought had crossed my mind, but I keep scolding myself and saying no.
hmmmmm...
I do love a challenge though. I tell you what, I'll draw one celebrity tarot card and if it makes me feel ill, I'll know not to make more. I already feel kind of ill after typing that sentence, but I shall press on.
Oh my, I just heard from TMZ that Nicole Richie is confirmed pregnant........
Must...keep....hands....from....grabbing....pen...and...
sketchbook... must...relax and enjoy vacation........put the sketchbook DOWN and move away.

Beautiful!
The wave has a very "Japanese" feel.
And I LOVE the hook on the "star". I'm not familiar with Tarot, but this is Gorgeous!
Happy July Fourth!

I'm pre-ordering your tarot cards when you've completed them. I am your die-hard fan.

This is gorgeous! You are incredibly. Don't sully the tarot with celebrity filth. The culture of celebrity has already shat on everything in the world. Somethings must be sacred.

so pretty and dreamy and I love the dark sky with the brighter sky in the background and the animals around. I am animal engorged these days from a-lookin at cuteoverload on the dot-com.

And for God's sake, go and get engaged in something before you succumb to a N.R. Preggers piece. Let it filter while you VA-KAY. You really do deserve it.

14,
It's so weird that I've been expanding my tarot collection lately, and then I see this, your beautiful version of 'The Star'. I'm more of a collector of the artwork than a 'reader'.
I would love to see your rendition of The Fool (my personal favorite), The High Priestess, The Moon (another fave), etc.
I will definitely buy your tarot if you offer a set for sale! :)

I'm a hard core rationalist, but I've always loved the symbolism and artistry of the Tarot. Yours is a welcome addition.
Enjoy your vacation.

I think you are great & tremendously talented artist. My daughter is an an aspiring artist (she now studies at School of Visual Arts in NYC) & I always send her an e-mail to get on your website pronto for an unbelievable experience. I love at the end where you state the materials you use. Listen, the one re: Paula Abdul had me laughing out loud. So damn funny. The best to you & keep us wanting more. You are a wonder.

Very nice. I particularly the look on the frog's face and the two cute little creatures on the bottom right hand side ...
Enjoy your holidays.

For what it's worth:
N. Ritchie will probably still be pregnant when you come back, forget her and enjoy the vacation.
The tarot card is lovely. Celebrity tarot cards? Listen to your stomach!! Celebrity toilet paper would be a better idea!
Just an opinion (but a damned good one, ahah!)

My goodness, this is gorgeous. I think the star would make a beautiful, but possibly painful to wear, pendant.

This is lovely 14! You chose my favorite card in the whole tarot deck. The star represents creativity! I look forward to seeing more, and pleeeese don't put celebrities on them!
Posted by: Cheezwiz | July 07, 2007 at 03:00 AM
Cheezwiz,
Hold on, now, maybe 14 can do two tarot decks, eh? One for celebs and one in the traditional sense.
Posted by: midevil | July 07, 2007 at 06:20 AM
Great work 14 from your fan. Now, when are you gonna do Beyonce, (Mama Tina) and Jay Z? Wigs askew?? Tyra Banks from you would be great too.
Whomever you chose you're always fantastic.

Dear 14: Your work is fantastic and this card beautiful. If you do reproduce a deck I would love to own one!! The Star is my significator and this particular rendering is just gorgeous!!!!

14, This is absolutely beautiful. There's something modern yet antique looking about it. I will buy the whole deck when it's available.
Enjoy your much deserved break!
I eagerly look forward to your latest creation.

Fidus?
If so,please don't become a theosophist.
They are very mistaken.

A bit of a resemblance between the figure on the card and the one in your love letter? ;)
Posted by: Thomas | July 11, 2007 at 11:28 AM
Beautiful! I just love it. Mark me down for another one who wants to buy a finished deck.
Posted by: Stacey | July 11, 2007 at 02:31 PM
Longtime fan here, saying "YES!" to the idea of an entire tarot deck.
I'd buy that in a heartbeat...
but not with celebrities. Your real art is so beautiful, and the tarot is such a timeless forum for it-an incredibly difficult subject, because of the complexities, but you are obviously up for it. I can't wait to see what else you do.
Posted by: julie | July 11, 2007 at 04:04 PM
I too collect tarot decks, and I would buy this right up! (Without celebrities, as others mentioned). This is just lovely!
Posted by: | July 11, 2007 at 09:32 PM
Hey, that looks really nice! The rest of the cards will probably be cool!
Posted by: | July 13, 2007 at 02:16 AM
Yes, I want to buy a deck of your tarot cards.
What a perfect match: your talent & wit + a wicked pack of cards.
