Nick Nolte will star as Dr. Zaius in the newest remake of Planet of the Apes. Not really, but he could easily do it. The producers would save time and money by not having to hire hair and makeup artists to transform Nolte into character.

What a preposterous suggestion. Nick Nolte clearly lacks the natural authority, actorly gravitas, and innate understated wisdom that a role like this demands.
Dr Zaius was an ape of science and learning. True he was blinded by the certainties of his time and culture,(as we all our to some degree),but in him we see the folly of many a great man (or ape) of science. Think of Einstein's obstinate rejection of Quantumn Physics for example.
Nolte on the other hand looks like he smells of piss.
My favorite modern PLANET OF THE APES ringers were always the Olsen Twins (as so capably pointed out in one of your fine pieces), but Jesus in a convenient spray bottle, Nolte gives 'em a great run for the money.
The seventies brought out the PLANET OF THE APES in a lot of celebrities. Country-schlock singers B.J Thomas and Eddie Rabbitt, and Barry Gibb coulda all been the younger brothers of Cornelius. Nolte and the Olsens have a long way (and a lot of body hair) to go before reaching that peak.
